The imprint page is on the verso of the title page and is the perfect place to put all the relevant details about the publication, the who what when and how stuff.


DESCRIPTION

An imprint of a publisher is a trade name – a name that a business uses for trading commercial products or services – under which a work published. Imprints typically have a defining character or mission. In pome cases, the diversity results from the takeover of smaller publishers (or parts of their business) by a larger company. In the case of Barnes & Noble, imprints have been used to facilitate the venture of a bookseller into publishing.

A single publishing company may have multiple imprints with the different often used by the publisher to market works to different demographic consumer segments. For example, the objective of Viking – an imprint of the penguin group – is to publish a strictly limited list of good nonfiction, such as biography history and works on contemporary affairs, and distinguished fiction with some claim to permanent importance rather than ephemeral popular interest.

 

·      The imprint Act 1993 makes it a lager requirement for all printed matter intended for public sale or public sale or public distribution to bear an imprint and which will be registered with the Printing Industries Federation.

 

1.    It is a criminal offense not to insert the imprint in legible type and in one of the official languages.

2.    The printing industries federation a grant permission to use an abbreviation of the full company name. It is an offence for anyone else to use that abbreviation.

3.    It there are any changes to the details furnished to the Printing Industries at the time of the original application for consent to use an abbreviated imprint, it is an offence not to inform the federation within 14 days.

4.    Lastly, it is an offence to distribute any imported printing matter in the Republic, on which the name of the country of origin does not appear.

 

The imprint page may contain the following material:

·      Publishers’ logo, name, address and also the web address

·      Date of publication

·      Name of author

·      The name of other contributors, such as editors, illustrators, etc.

·      Also contains the name of the designer and details of the cover design, ie. Credit to the photography

·      Printer’s details

·      Copyright information

·      ISBN
